Athletics at the University Club works in partnership with Concierge Physical Therapists to offer members a full spectrum of health and wellness resources.
Therapist Julie Deignan graduated from the University of Southern California with a Masters in Physical Therapy in 1996. With a background in both Massage Therapy and Physical Therapy, she’s spent the last 3 decades honing her manual therapy skills. Specializing in myofascial release and trigger point release, her continuing education courses also include: fascial counterstrain, craniosacral release, and lymphatic drainage. Her approach to therapy is based on the Foundation for Movement Longevity developed by Kinesiologist Eric Wong and Dr. Erin Boynton. This method incorporates progressing through 3 stages: relaxing contracted soft tissues, restoring neutral alignment and normal range of motion, and reprogramming the neuromuscular system to optimize body mechanics. Typical sessions begin with manual therapy to release soft tissue restrictions, and end with movement to immediately utilize and integrate alignment corrections and range of motion gains. Julie is also an advocate of daily self-care routines to ensure progress is maintained during therapy and beyond.
A customized home program is designed for each patient based on individual needs and goals. Personally, she is fascinated by the mind-body connection and natural methods to promote a state of ease in all activities. At 50 years young, she attributes her own wellness to a plant-based diet and medicines, daily meditation and movement, and the constant evolution of self-care practices that facilitate her body’s innate healing abilities. Born and raised in California, Julie’s surprised many Chicagoans with her love for the Windy City and a true four seasons. With 8+ years in Lincoln Park, she and her daughter have thoroughly enjoyed bonding with the third coast. Highlights include biking lakeshore drive, cultivating a thriving pollinator garden, and enjoying Chicago’s abundance of artistic and cultural offerings.
